The circumstances surrounding the match between Bologna and AC Milan have descended into chaos and confusion, with three options reportedly on the table.
The announcement that came through the ANSA press agency in the last few hours was exactly that The mayor of Bologna has signed a decree. Due to the bad weather and flooding in the stadium area, the game is effectively postponed.
As we learned through our correspondent Luca Maninetti, the game remains at the center of negotiations between all parties and it is possible that the game could still be played.
The main conclusion at the moment is that the postponement was an independent initiative of the mayor, who did not speak to the Prefect of Bologna, resorting – albeit interpretatively – to the same regulations drawn up for Covid regarding the postponement for health reasons became reasons.
The mayor does not have the authority to cancel the game. This means the game will not be officially postponed and this could lead to three scenarios:
- A 3-0 defeat with a result in Milan’s favor if they insist that the Stadio Renato dall’Ara cannot be used even though it is usable;
- Bologna-Milan is to be played at a neutral venue by order of Lega Serie A, the league’s governing body;
- Bologna-Milan played at 18:00 CEST on Saturday, albeit behind closed doors, a decision that Bologna could not resist.
A meeting between the prefect and the mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, is planned for tomorrow morning to try to get the mayor to back down.
