Back then, appearing on MTV was quite a deal. From showcasing a luxurious villa that can be transformed into a club in an instant to learning about your favorite beer, MTV Cribs was the experience of a lifetime. After all, when you see Dale Earnhardt Jr. today as the father of two beautiful girls, it’s hard to believe that he once had a bachelor pad where he drank a lot of beer!

Given that MTV Cribs is the show that people feel very connected to. There was a perception that this was the show that would bring young audiences together. And Earnhardt Jr. seemed like someone who would resonate well with young audiences!

When Jade Gurss, the owner of Fingerprint Inc., the public relations firm that handled Anheuser-Busch and the Budweiser NASCAR program with Dale Earnhardt Jr., sat down for a Dale Jr. Download segment, Gurss talked about the Strategy. He said: “We knew who his father was because all the racing media would cover him. We kind of knew that when I came in. I could have screwed up 100 times and we knew he would still be a big story in the racing industry. But my job was to expand this more to the general public.”

Gurss added that MTV Cribs had another impact on Dale Jr.’s PR and increased popularity: “Honestly, we wanted to reach young men who drink beer, we wanted them to drink Budweiser. And that became my job: to get a rolling stone to spend the weekend with us and do a big feature on Dale Jr. It was almost like getting the snowball rolling. Then MTV came out and we did something with MTV briefly. And then we did MTV Cribs and that was crazy. If you weren’t around at the time, I don’t think people would understand how influential “Cribs” was back then. And it just created this tremendous momentum and interest in Dale Jr.” Even his Gibson guitar, which fans loved so much, had a high-quality “Budweiser” logo on it.

His connection to the legendary Bud Car #8 was cemented by this popular episode, which aired frequently due to popular demand. Fans couldn’t get enough of Earnhardt’s episode, which MTV aired up to 20 times a month, making him a household name and increasing his appeal among younger viewers.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s fame skyrocketed as sponsors flocked to him, especially after his father’s tragic death at Daytona, which brought additional publicity to his journey.

Dale Jr. triggers nostalgia again

It seems like the No. 8 Bud car and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are a bond for the ages. When MTV Cribs put Earnhardt Jr. in the spotlight, one couldn’t help but recognize the camaraderie he shared with Budweiser.

However, recently Joe Gibbs’ team officially announced that he will be taking over the Budweiser livery again after 17 long years! He will compete in the South Carolina 400 at Florence Motor Speedway on November 23, 2024. Earnhardt Jr. recalled his experience with the brand and the car and also mentioned: “It’s an incredible opportunity for me to reunite with Budweiser and No. 8. We have always supported each other over the years. It will be something special for me to be able to represent this brand on the racetrack again.”
