Jules Kounde has been one of Hansi Flick’s most used players this season and has, against all odds, made the right-back position his own.
The France international slowly adjusted to the new role that was given to him and is now no less than an experienced option at right-back and looks ready to continue in the new position in the future.
So far this season he has been sensational in both attack and defense and has improved with every passing game. However, before the game against Real Madrid, he faces a serious test in defense against Vinicius Jr.
In a recent interview with fan streamer Markaroni on YouTube, the Barcelona right-back discussed his thoughts ahead of time El Clasicothe connection he has with Lamine Yamal and other related topics.
He began by commenting particularly on the understanding he enjoyed with the young Yamal on his flank and how they coordinated to maximize activity on the wing.
“I think we get along pretty well. Lamine is very easy to play. He’s young and sometimes I have to talk to him, especially on defense, because I can do that on offense. I can’t teach him anything.”
He was then asked about his connection to Yamal, mirroring Dani Alves’ connection to Lionel Messi, to which he modestly said:
“The comparison is great and hopefully one day we can reach their level – Lamine-Messi and me-Alves. They were two great players and the connection between a right-back and a right-winger was one of the best ever.”
“I think that every game I’m getting more confident, I’m enjoying it a little bit more every game, and I just try to work hard to complement his game and give him the opportunity when he has the ball has, be it overlapping or simple.” I’m taking a defender with me,” He added his bond with Yamal.
When discussing Barcelona’s strong start to the season, he explained what was different this season.
“A big congratulations to the coach. I think we understand very well how the coach wants to play and are enjoying our football right now. Be intense, be aggressive, play a high line and score a lot of goals.”
I’m looking ahead El ClasicoThe defender expressed what he expected that evening and how he felt in the build-up to the game.
“More excitement than pressure, to be honest it’s just pure joy to be able to play another Clasico. It’s also a big game. It’s only three points, but yes, we know this game is special.”
“Of course it will be a difficult game. “It’s a great team that knows how to win.” he added.
Finally, he commented on the upcoming duel with Vinicius Jr. and said:
“As far as Vinicius is concerned, he is probably the best left winger in the world. I think it’s a challenge and will help me figure out where I’m at in my game and what I need to improve on.”
