by Bret Holmes Racing has announced the immediate closure of its operations. The team, a staple of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, announced it will not compete in the series for the remainder of the current 2024 season. With this decision, driver and team owner Bret Holmes is now a free agent.
The team was founded with the primary goal of being successful in stock car racing and was successful in winning an ARCA Menards Series championship in 2020. This victory came against all odds as the team was operating with limited resources and older equipment. Their technical alliance with Spire Motorsports was critical in supporting their operations as BHR moved up to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Holmes himself has shown promise throughout his career, recording two top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes in 56 career starts. His record placed him 18th in the series standings, although he suffered some setbacks, such as his absence from the recent Homestead-Miami Speedway race. The absence of the No. 32 BHR car from the race indicated growing difficulties within the team.
In a heartfelt statement, BHR confirmed the news to social media, writing:

“To date, Bret Holmes Racing has made the difficult decision to close our doors and will not return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for the 2024 or 2025 season.
“To all of our fans, sponsors, friends, families – and most importantly our team – we thank you all for the support and commitment you show to BHR every step of the way.”
“We thank each and every one of you for the role you played in making each race day unforgettable.
“Following the closure of BHR, Bret Holmes would like to continue racing in the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.”
The departure of key employees such as Mike Shiplett, former crew chief and now at Niece Motorsports, also contributed to BHR’s closure. Financial challenges also remained, as evidenced by the fluctuating sponsorship opportunities despite support from companies like Precision Garage Door Service and First Bank of Alabama.
That leaves just three races left in the 2024 season at Homestead-Miami, Martinsville and Phoenix.
